The problem
The account exists. The policies don’t fit.
Creating a Google account by hand takes a few minutes. Putting it in the right organizational unit is the step that gets skipped, so the user lands in the top-level org with the default settings.
From there they get the wrong apps, the wrong sharing rules, and the wrong security policies. Nobody notices until the new hire can’t open something they need, or can open something they shouldn’t.
The outcome
The account lands in the org unit that sets their policies
Stepwork creates the Google account and moves it into the team’s organizational unit. The new hire gets that team’s apps and policies, and the run records who asked and which org unit was used.
- The account is created with a password they change at first sign-in.
- The user sits in the team’s org unit.
- A taken email address stops the run.
The process
From Slack request to a new Google account
A teammate posts the new hire’s details in Slack. Stepwork creates the account in the Google Admin console, in the org unit that sets their policies.
- Step 1
Request it in Slack
A teammate posts the new hire’s name, work email, and team in the onboarding channel. That message starts the flow, and Stepwork records who asked and when.

- Step 2
Add the user
Stepwork signs in to the Google Admin console and adds the user with their name, work email, and an initial password they change at first sign-in. If the address is taken, the run stops.

- Step 3
Place them in their org unit
Stepwork moves the user into their team’s organizational unit. That org unit decides which apps and policies apply to them.

- Step 4
Confirm and reply in Slack
Stepwork checks that the account sits in the right org unit, then posts the result back in the onboarding channel.

Why Stepwork
The org unit is not a step someone can skip
Creating the Google account and placing it in the team’s organizational unit are one path. The user does not land in the top-level org with the default policies, which is what happens when the second step is left for later.
