The problem
New account. Missing groups.
Setting up a new hire in the Microsoft Entra admin center means creating the user, then adding each security group their team uses. The groups are the part that slips.
One missing group means no shared mailbox, no SharePoint site, or no app on day one. Each admin keeps the list in their head, so the result depends on who picked up the ticket.
The outcome
The account and the team’s groups are ready together
Stepwork creates the Entra user and adds the security groups for their team. Those groups grant the team’s apps and shared resources, so day one starts with access in place. The run records who asked and which groups were added.
- The user is created with their name and work email.
- Every security group for the team is added.
- A taken email address stops the run.
The process
From Slack request to a new Entra account
A teammate posts the new hire’s details in Slack. Stepwork creates the user in the Microsoft Entra admin center and adds the security groups their team uses.
- Step 1
Request it in Slack
A teammate posts the new hire’s name, work email, and team in the onboarding channel. That message starts the flow, and Stepwork records who asked and when.

- Step 2
Create the user
Stepwork signs in to the Microsoft Entra admin center and creates the user with their name and work email. If the address is taken, the run stops.

- Step 3
Add their security groups
Stepwork adds the user to each security group for their team. Those groups grant the team’s apps and shared resources.

- Step 4
Confirm and reply in Slack
Stepwork checks the account and its group memberships, then posts the result back in the onboarding channel.

Why Stepwork
The groups are created with the account
Creating the Entra user and adding the team’s security groups are one path. Access does not depend on who remembered the group list, because the groups are a step in the path rather than a follow-up ticket.
