Transfer Dropbox content

One Slack request. Business files keep an owner.

The problem

The files leave with the person.

When someone exits, their Dropbox folders hold projects, customer files, and shared drafts. IT often downloads and re-uploads by hand, or skips the transfer and loses track of what mattered.

Managers discover the gap weeks later when a folder they still need is gone or locked behind an account nobody can open.

The outcome

Business files survive the departure

Stepwork transfers the departing member’s content to their manager as part of removal. Ownership continues without manual copying, and the run records who asked. Run Suspend member in Dropbox after the handoff when access should end.

Suspend member in Dropbox
  • Content moves to the named manager or successor.
  • The transfer is recorded on the run.
  • If the member or destination cannot be found, the run stops.

The process

From Slack request to transferred Dropbox content

A teammate posts the leaver and the receiving manager in Slack. Stepwork runs the transfer in Dropbox admin.

  1. Step 1

    Request it in Slack

A teammate posts the departing employee’s email and the manager who should receive their files. That message starts the flow, and Stepwork records who asked and when.

  2. Step 2

    Find the member and destination

Stepwork signs in to Dropbox admin and locates both accounts. If either cannot be found, the run stops.

  3. Step 3

    Transfer the content

Stepwork transfers the departing member’s files to the manager, the same handoff an admin makes by hand.

  4. Step 4

    Confirm and reply in Slack

Stepwork checks that the transfer completed, then posts the result back in Slack.

Why Stepwork

The handoff stays on the path you recorded

A deterministic agent runs the transfer path you recorded. Business files do not depend on IT downloading folders under time pressure.

FAQ

Common questions

  • Post the departing user’s email and the receiving manager in Slack. Stepwork transfers the content and confirms the handoff.
  • No. Suspending the member is a separate Dropbox flow. Run the transfer first when ownership still matters.
    Suspend member in Dropbox
