Reassign Jira issues

One Slack request. Open issues get new owners.

The problem

Tickets sit in a queue that nobody watches.

When someone leaves, their open Jira issues keep their name. Managers triage one ticket at a time after the fact, and some stay stuck for weeks.

Work looks active in reports while nobody is actually moving it. Customers and teammates wait on issues assigned to someone who is gone.

The outcome

Work stops stalling in departed queues

Stepwork finds issues assigned to the departing user and reassigns them to their manager or a named teammate. Ownership moves with a record of who asked. Open Asana tasks need the same handoff — Reassign open Asana tasks from departed employee.

  • Open issues for that assignee are found.
  • Each issue moves to the named manager or teammate.
  • If the user cannot be found, the run stops.

The process

From Slack request to reassigned Jira issues

IT posts the leaver and the new assignee in Slack. Stepwork finds open issues and reassigns them.

  1. Step 1

    Request it in Slack

A teammate posts the departing user’s email and who should take their open issues. That message starts the flow, and Stepwork records who asked and when.

  2. Step 2

    Find open issues

Stepwork signs in to Jira and lists issues assigned to that user. If the user cannot be found, the run stops.

  3. Step 3

    Reassign the issues

Stepwork reassigns each open issue to the manager or teammate named in the request.

  4. Step 4

    Confirm and reply in Slack

Stepwork checks that the issues moved, then posts the count and result back in Slack.

Why Stepwork

Issue handoff stays on the path you recorded

A deterministic agent runs the reassignment path you recorded. Open work does not wait on a manager clicking through tickets one by one.
