Assign Microsoft 365 license

One Slack request. The seat is on the user.

Book a Demo

The problem

The ticket waits on whoever has admin access.

New-hire and upgrade tickets pile up until an admin opens the Microsoft 365 admin center and clicks the right SKU. Helpdesk can see the request but cannot finish it.

Day-one work stalls without mail and apps. The same assign steps repeat all week, and every delay is another person blocked on a license click.

The outcome

License assignment stops waiting on an available admin

Stepwork finds the user in the admin center and assigns the license SKU from the request. The seat is on them when the run finishes, and Slack gets who asked and which SKU was applied.

  • The specified license SKU is assigned.
  • The user is located before any change is made.
  • If the user or SKU cannot be found, the run stops.

The process

From Slack request to an assigned license

Helpdesk posts the user and SKU in Slack. Stepwork assigns the license in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

  1. Step 1

    Request it in Slack

A teammate posts the user’s work email and the license SKU in the helpdesk channel. That message starts the flow, and Stepwork records who asked and when.

  2. Step 2

    Find the user

Stepwork signs in to the Microsoft 365 admin center and locates the user. If nobody matches, the run stops.

  3. Step 3

    Assign the license

Stepwork assigns the specified license SKU, the same change an admin makes by hand.

  4. Step 4

    Confirm and reply in Slack

Stepwork checks that the license shows on the user, then posts the result back in Slack.

Why Stepwork

Helpdesk finishes the seat without the console

Stepwork runs the assign path you recorded. License tickets clear from Slack instead of waiting on whoever has admin access that hour.

FAQ

Common questions

  • Post the work email and license SKU in Slack. Stepwork finds the user, assigns the SKU, and confirms it.
  • No. Converting the mailbox to shared and removing the license is a separate Microsoft 365 flow.
Remove license and convert mailbox to shared in Microsoft 365
  • The run stops on the assign step and records the reason. It does not pick a different SKU.
